Victorian COVID-19 cases fall to lowest daily increase since June 23

Victoria has recorded its lowest daily increase in cases since June 23 with only 28 overnight infections and eight deaths.

The state’s last daily increase of over 100 infections occurred almost a fortnight ago and total active cases have remained below 1,000.

The rolling 14-day case average for metropolitan Melbourne dipped to an average of 44.4 cases while regional Victoria recorded an average of 2.9 cases.

Victoria's third step out of coronavirus restrictions was contingent on a state-wide daily average over 14 days under five, however, Premier Daniel Andrews yesterday suggested an easing of restrictions would not occur before September 28 despite the state's success.
